Pinni is a type of Punjabi and North Indian cuisine dish that is eaten mostly in winters. It is served as a dessert and is made from desi ghee, wheat flour, jaggery and almonds.
Apart from feeding babies, it’s also a nutritional supplement for pregnant women and new mothers.
Traditionally, Punjab has been a leader in the agriculture sector. The farmers, who worked for long hours in the field, required energy throughout the day. And that’s where pinni came in.
From a cultural perspective, celebration of most festivals in Punjab is incomplete if pinni is not served, sometimes as a prasad or as a sweet dish .Since they are home-made, there are variations in their recipes as well.
