Pizza Margherita is a typical Neapolitan pizza, made with San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella fior di latte, fresh basil, salt and extra-virgin olive oil.
History behind the name:
It’s a popular belief that in June 1889 the chef of Pizzeria Brandi , invented a dish called “Pizza Margherita” in honor of the Queen of Italy, Margherita of Savoy, and the Italian unification. The toppings of the pizza represented the colours of the Italian flag with the tomatoes, mozzarella and Basil indicating the red, white and green colours of the flag.
