Cannoli consists of tube-shaped, finger-like fried pastry traditionally filled with ricotta cream cheese filling or marscarpone cheese. The filling is usually sweetened with honey or sugar and a variety of other ingredients such as choco-chips, pistachios, other types of dry fruits and even rose water is used to add flavor to the dessert.

Cannoli was first originated in Palermo in Sicily during the Arab period. Initially, these were made exclusively for the carnevale season and were also regarded as a fertility symbol. Nowadays it’s made all year round and is a very popular dessert around the globe.
