These hot pockets are essentially made of masa or corn-type of dough, prepared by steaming in corn husks or banana leaves. These are usually filled with a variety of ingredients from chicken to fish and everything in between. It can also be made into a sweet dish by adding sugar in the dough and also by having sweet filling inside the dough. The husk is removed before eating it.

There are a lot of variants mostly in the filling with almost each South American country having its own version of it. These parcels of flavor are easy to store and carry on travels. These are also sold as frozen foods in the US because of its stability and deliciousness.

It’s basically like an ancient South American version of our beloved samosa!
