Deep-dish Pizza : Pizza or Pie?

Deep- dish pizza was invented in Chicago in 1943. This type of pizza is also known as the Chicago-style pizza. This pie-like pizza is more like a meal itself than a dish, more like a balanced diet for pizza lovers.

A deep-dish pizza is cooked in a cake or pie tin with the crust covering the tin from lip to bottom. Hence, the name deep-dish was kept. The unique way of making this pizza is that the tin is first greased with oil and then the crust is placed in the tin. Next, slices of mozzarella are placed above the crust and then the rest of the toppings follow. The last topping is usually the uncooked tomato sauce. Parmesan is usually sprinkled as a finishing touch after it’s cooked.

Chicago is also known for its stuffed pizza which is similar to a deep-dish pizza.

I recommend everyone to try this infamous pizza while you’re in Chicago, especially for the pizza lovers!
